LONDON - Terror struck in the heart of London on Thursday as explosions ripped through three subway trains and blasted the roof off a crowded red double-decker bus. At least 37 people were killed and more than 700 wounded in the deadliest attack on the city since the blitz in World War II.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair blamed Islamic extremists and said the bombings were designed to coincide with the opening in Scotland of a G-8 summit of the world's most powerful leaders. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said the bombings — which came the day after London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics — have the "hallmarks of an al-Qaida-related attack."
Trapped passengers in the Underground railway threw themselves on the floor, some sobbing. As subway cars quickly filled with smoke, people used their umbrellas to try to break the windows so that they could get air. Passengers emerged from the Underground covered with blood and soot. On the street, in a light rain, buses ferried the wounded, and medics used a hotel as a hospital.
It was the attack that Britain had long feared, following the Sept. 11, 2001, strikes in New York and Washington and Britain's subsequent alliance with U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thursday's explosions also recalled the March 11, 2004, terrorist bombs that killed 191 people on four commuter trains in Madrid, Spain.
There was no credible claim of responsibility, and police were investigating whether suicide bombers were involved. Al-Qaida did not issue claims of responsibility after the Sept. 11 attacks.
The attack on London brought out a stoicism that recalled Britain under the blitz of German bombers in World War II, when many Londoners sought refuge in the Underground, site of Thursday's carnage.
Security was raised in the United States and around the world. The Bush administration upped the terror alert a notch to code orange for the nation's mass transit systems, and bomb-sniffing dogs and armed police patrolled subways and buses in the capital.
Much of Europe also went on alert. Italy's airports raised alert levels to a maximum. The Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, the Netherlands, France and Spain also announced beefed-up security at shopping centers, airports, railways and subways.
The bombings came as Blair and President Bush met over breakfast in Gleneagles, Scotland, and answered questions from reporters, and before all the leaders were due to begin the summit's general session.
G-8 leaders stood in solidarity with Blair before the prime minister made his hasty departure for London to confer with his Cabinet.
"The war on terror goes on," Bush said. "I was most impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve."
Terrorism experts agreed with Straw that the explosions had the hallmarks of al-Qaida.
"This is clearly an al-Qaida style attack. It was well coordinated, it was timed for a political event and it was a multiple attack on a transportation system at rush hour," said Lawrence Freedman, professor of war studies at King's College in London.
Blair implicated Islamic extremists but cautioned that they speak for only a small percentage of Muslims.
"We know that these people act in the name of Islam, but we also know that the vast and overwhelming majority of Muslims here and abroad are decent and law-abiding people who abhor this act of terrorism every bit as much as we do," Blair said.
Yeahhh a sad news indeed but again they r blaming the Muslims
Wat a pitty....
I agree with Nawed bro that a True Muslim can't even think abot that...
All is happening around here is jus a pre-planned anti-Islam campaign...
I hate when they jus start blaming muslims...

No indication suicide bombers behind London blasts
LONDON (AFP) - There is no evidence to suggest that suicide bombers were behind the series of deadly blasts in London, the city's police chief told reporters.
"There is absolutely nothing to suggest that this was a suicide bombing attack although nothing at this stage can be ruled out," Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair said of the attacks on three underground trains.
An anti-terrorism official, Andy Hayman, added that in the train bombings, "each device that was used had less than 10 pounds (4.5 kilogrammes) of high explosive" and their placement was "likely to be on the floor of the carriage."
Blair said that in the case of the double-decker bus blown up there was also no indication that a bomber deliberately set off an explosive device while on board the vehicle.
"It may have been that, but it may have been a bomb left on a seat, it may have been a bomb that went off in transit," he said Friday.
I am writing here as an eyewitness of the scene. I was meant to take that Piccadilly line from King’s Cross to Knightbridge and fortunately missed the train that was bombed. Around 8 o’clock in the morning, I got out of my home near Edgware Road and headed through the underground tubes ( circle line ) to King’s Cross station. I had an appointment in the Dallas & Dallas law firm in Knightbridge and was praying that by the time I reach the King’s Cross station, the piccadilly line tube from the King’s Cross would already be there. So that I could catch that and reach to Kinghtbridge on time. I was already late since there were delays on the line and it was the rush hour since everyone is going to their offices.
By the time, I got off my tube and started running toward the platform of King’s Cross station, since it was a bit of a walk coz I had to change the line to Piccadilly line. I did reach there, but fortunately, I think I was a foot away when the automatic door of the unfateful line got shut and it left me behind on the platform.
After catching my breath, since I ran as fast as possible to get that tube, I looked at my watch, and it was 8:48 as per mine.
I started cursing myself that I should have got out of my home a bit early, and was trying to calm down on the platform.
I walked toward a bench and all I did was to put my bag down. And that was the moment that I felt the earth move and suddenly there was a very loud deafening bang and the lights of the station flickered.
I felt the concussion liteally, and the heat on my face and body. Everyone started to look at the tunnel through which the train left ( that I just missed few minutes ago ). And everyone started to smell the fumes/ the soot, and started gasping for the oxygen.
Suddenly, the lights were restored and we heard the announcement to evacuate the station. Ppl started running madly towards the exit. Like everyone I was in shock too.
The first thing I thought was maybe there was a power failure due to 2 tubes colliding.
That was the explanation I could give to myself. I never thought that it was the bomb that just went off.
By the time I managed finally to come near to the exit of the station, it was 9;07 in my watch, I all I were concern was me being late for the appointment. When I came out of the station, I think I saw as many as 12-15 police cars parked outside, telling on the loud speaker to clear the area and to calm down. That was the time when we heard the ambulances sirens. By that time, I thought that someone must have done something stupid inside the tube station. Still my concern was the law firm’s appointment ( since I was in the last process of selling my house where I grew up and studied in London, it was the final paper work for it ) and I hailed a black cab to go towards the Knightbridge. The traffic was litrally dead. And it didn’t even move. The driver had his radio on. And that was the time that I realized that I was saved by seconds, when they mentioned the bomb explosion.
I rang the firm on the mobile telling to postpone my appointment since the bomb was already mentioned on the radio.
Now if I try to think hard and clearly, I remember that the carriage I missed was the first one, and as per newspapers, that was the one bombed.
I missed my death by seconds. Perhaps milliseconds, and I were cursing myself at that time for missing that tube.
You know the second bomb that rocked its station was the Egdware Rd. my home station. And this is the place where us Arabs hang out most. It feels that the ppl who really who planted these bombs wanted 2 things out of it
1. terrorize the ppl living there.
2. mostly muslim population has been affected. Sooner or later you will see that the main death victim category is muslims. If it is not 40 % it might be 30 %.
If you think neutrally, who benefits most.
ISREAL.
He knows that ppl r already heated about muslims in USA and elsewhere. Why not U.K? Sooner on later, u will hear that not even an Israeli was injured or died.
He played exactly the same old dirty trick, that he played with USA.
Causalities of 9/11 were near about 2792 who lost their lives. And how many were Israelis….only 4, yes only 4 out of almost 3000 victims.
The attack was carried out on 09-11-2001, as per Israelis calendar, it is the Hunnoka for them ( similar to out Eid day holiday. ) and guess what? All Israelis workers were on vacation due to their special day celebration. Perfect timings, right?
US media covers up all about Israel and puts it on Muslims. Same is the case here, Tony Blair has already started saying that perhaps, it is the work of extremist Muslims. Whereas Sir Ian Blair, Met Police Commissioner, is telling that it is too early to say anything or blame anyone.
Is there something TONY BLAIR KNOWS AND Sir Ian Blair DON’T?
How come that a guy working on a crime scene is so clueless and Tony already knows?
Something is very fishy?
Isn’t it?
Sure, Osama and his gangs r helping these Westerners a lot.
Osama makes sure that muslims suffer well.
Don’t you feel that he & his gang are American agents.
Out of nowhere ( BBC claims that ), there is a website that claims that alqaida of Europe r claiming that they planted bombs on the tubes in London. Now how come we never come across these websites? It is all pre-planned to give a good bash to muslims. The saddest part is that few sick muslims are helping them and Osama and his gang r few of those ppl.
In front of muslims this sick guy pretends to raise a holy war and keeps his mouth shut for 8 months and suddenly, 2 days before elections in USA, releases a sick tape to remind them that he is still loose and not dead yet.
So that American ( out of terror ) votes for sick Bush to be president for next 4 years. And muslims get the bash for another 4 years. Now, who helped Bush to stay put in the white house.
Of course, it was our great dual faced MULLAH with the beard.
Question, why cant USA find him? Answer: because, they r protecting him.
Get it?
You tell me, whom on earth these American soldiers cant find?
They did find Saddam Hussain, coz they didn’t need him anymore!
Osama is in their pocket from a very long time. Who knows that he is even having breakfast with Bush every morning in White house? But pretending that he is on the run.
Mullah Omar ( number 2 of his group ) was caught in Afghanistan, and suddenly manages his escape from the US army? On what? Of course, on one of US soldiers motorbike. And the whole chase of cat and mouse begins all over again.
Well, at least, I am not blind, others might be.
We muslims need to wake up and stand together, not stand against each other.
I feel extremely sorry of ppl who died and got injured in London tragedy. I saw ppl been taken away in critical conditions. Having a medical background, I know that some might not even make it through. The worst part is all will be dumped on us, muslims.
And west will have another excuse to go and bomb and takeover another muslim country.
I think, it is time that we wake up from the sweet dream and face the nightmare of reality.
May God bless and give brain to our Muslim nation. Ameen.

DOCARABIA
No dear sis !!! God forbid....!!! plz dont say that...!!!
May Allah keep u away from all accidents and worries....Amin
No doubt....It's Almighty Allah Who always save us from harm....
though likes of me, never worthy of it....
Alhamdulillahi Ta'aalah....
Ok I am really mad... This morning when I was replying to this post, we had a terrible storm here in Windsor.. So the lights flashed and the computer shut down on me.. I was abt to hit the post button and (damn it) so I can't write all the stuff that I wrote this morning but just gunna summarize it a bit..
Well to begin with whatever happened in London.. whoever did it whether they were Muslims, Isrealites, Alqaida agents workin for Bush or whoever else.. joh bhi hua.. IT WAS WRONG! And Bush or Blair are not the only ppl in this world who condemned this action.. I think we all in here know that it was wrong..
Our religion doesn't allow it and well any event/action that causes killings of innocent ppl is cowardly so whatever they did .. it was very coward of them!
Now I am goin to pick some of the parts of ur replies that caught my attention and gunna reply to it.. since its impossible to reply to each and every post in here..
As Moiz bhai and docarabia sed, they are blaming the Muslims for it..
Well I dun think this time they are blaming the Muslims only..
Is se pehle joh bhi hua Afghanistan mai aur Iraq mai.. since (for Afghanistan) us Pakistanies (well the leaders to be more specific) helped them so much destroy the so-called Alqaida and the poor country , well they didn't have any reason to attack us.. So how is it possible.. they are having dushmani for Arabs, Afghans.. how can they leave us Pakistanies behind? So this bombing gave them a reason to hold it all against us..
Since the guys who did it are of Pakistani origin.. (Shehzad tanveer and Haseeb Hussain waghaira) Now they are going to say that pakistan is also giving rise to terrorism and they did it for us.. etc etc.. I am afraid but sooner or later they are goin to add pakistan to their list of countries to attack! And now they have a reason for it!

Agreed..

2. mostly muslim population has been affected. Sooner or later you will see that the main death victim category is muslims. If it is not 40 % it might be 30 %.
Again agree..
Quote:
If you think neutrally, who benefits most.
ISREAL.
Well anything that involves the destruction of us Muslims is beneficial to Isreal.. so no arguments on that.. I agree..

Ok this is a completely new topic.. I don't think osama is behind all this..
Well my personal belief is that Osama doesn't even exist.. so what u sed abt the tape and how it was released a couple days before the election so that Bush can be re-elected... well I agree to all that but it just made my belief stronger .. This so-called Osama doesn't exist.. Its somthing Bush madeup.. because why would someone wanna kill his own ppl? But thats what I think.. Most of the ppl might agree with you!
Arite now ... emm Docarabia.. ur story is just wowwwwww!! Thats all I can say.. and I am sure this has made u even more thankful to God for he saved yor life while u were whining about missing the tube..
Your post out of all was the most interesting..
Thanx nawed for sharing the articles.. Wow after a long time today I finally had a chance to think about something!!
A-1 post (pakistani lang.) lolz..
Zahesh!

I just read about your close escape doc. Allah decids who he wants to take and who is to stay here. Whatever happened is already planned...thats what muslim beleives in.
indeed a tough time for muslims as they are really the ones being victimised..
but who's to blame? and why?
no one thinks... we as muslims are the ones who are supposed to beleive in ALMIGHTY Allah... but do we really?
We have left Allah so why expect any mercy??
but still we seek HIS help because he still is the only one who the most gracious and the most merciful.
